The grass is always greener
In preparation of us having a reasonably large lawn to mow when the house is built we are in the market for a mower.
Currently, we have the luxury of being able to pay to have our lawns done once a month and subsequently haven’t had a mower for a few years, but with our soon to be huge mortgage we have decided it will be worth doing them ourselves.
So, the hunt is now on for one that will be able to power through the 2000m2 (!) or so of grass we will have at the new place.
Ideally we are looking for something with a wide cutting chassis, mulcher & catcher along with a bit of grunt to last through the hour plus that it will take to get through the job.
At the moment we have narrowed it down to a choice of 2 from Victa. Either the
Mustang MCA488 with a Briggs & Stratton motor or the Mustang MCA485 powered by a Honda motor. Both fit our requirements list, the MCA488 has a 7.5hp motor and comes with a 4 year warranty compared to the MCA485’s 5.5hp motor and 2 year warranty.
Choice gives both mowers a good review and they are the same price, so we are having a tough time deciding. The Honda engines seem to get a bit more praise than the Briggs & Stratton ones.
As of last night we were leaning towards the Honda one, maybe the best solution would be to head into a mower shop and look at them both to get a feel of things like the comfort of the push handle etc since that will be a major factor when working with it for such a long time.
Does anyone have any experience with either model that they could give a recommendation?
Decisions, decisions…..
